Materials FACT is an independent failure analysis laboratory and engineering consulting firm serving both public and private clients across a broad range of industries. Our services support litigation, subrogation, insurance claims, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). We provide laboratory testing, forensic analysis, materials and process selection consulting, and research and development in support of materials engineering and product performance challenges. Joseph Quinn, P.E.,

Principal Materials Consultant

Mr. Quinn, founder of Materials FACT, is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in metallurgical engineering, registered in CA, PA, UT, NV, AZ, CO, and WA, and holds the Model Law Engineer (MLE) designation.

He has conducted over 1,000 investigations involving both metallic and non-metallic materials—including glass, plastic, rubber, and composites—in matters related to litigation, subrogation, insurance claims, and industrial incidents. His experience included roles with Product Evaluation Systems, Industrial Testing Laboratory Services, the Basic Metals Processing Research Institute, SEAL Laboratories, EAG Laboratories, and Quinn Construction.

Mr. Quinn holds three degrees in materials science and engineering, has received awards in the International Metallographic Contest, and has delivered numerous presentations on materials engineering and failure analysis at universities, ASM meetings, and industry events. He currently serves as the Immediate Past President of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) in California and remains active in industry standards development, technical societies, and professional committees.
